News Release - Dr. Milan G. Mody Joins Faculty At WK Spine Institute

Milan G. Mody, MD, spine surgery specialist, has joined the faculty of The Spine Institute at Willis-Knighton, expanding its range of specialty services. Dr. Mody, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, completed training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas–Galveston, followed by a combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship at M.D. Anderson and University of Texas-Houston. He is one of only a few spine surgeons in the country to receive advanced surgical training from both neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons.
Among Dr. Mody’s areas of clinical expertise are the non-operative and operative treatment of disorders of the spine including the neck and back. Dr. Mody seeks to identify a treatment or combination of treatments to successfully enable his patients to return to an active life and gainful employment.
Surgical treatment available includes minimally-invasive microdiskectomy for herniated disks, lumbar laminotomy for leg pain, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion for unstable spine, cervical diskectomy and fusion for arm pain, artifical disk replacements in the neck and back, Kyphoplasty for osteoporotic fractures, X-Stop for leg pain or stenosis, epidural steroid injections for acute radiculopathy, extended correction and fusion for adult and pediatric scoliosis, and posterior cervical laminoplasty for cervical stenosis.
Dr. Mody has been appointed assistant professor of spine surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center and has published clinical studies in national and international medical journals. He teaches spinal anatomy and techniques at surgeon courses and has presented his research at regional, national and international scientific conferences. His experience in clinical research will enable patients at the Spine Institute the opportunity to participate in studies evaluating new approaches to treatment.
Dr. Mody accepts referrals from both primary care and specialty physicians. He also accepts patients directly and from personal injury/accident cases. Dr. Mody is available for workman’s compensation patients and pain management second medical opinions. He is a partner at The Orthopedic Clinic at the WK Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center.
